Muhlenberg Job Corps Student Success – Bernard Funderburk

Muhlenberg Job Corps graduate Bernard Funderburk spent 13 months at the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center, and credits his success to Job Corps. In just over one year, Funderburk completed the Medical Assistant certification, became a certified phlebotomist, and a certified EKG technician before relocating from Augusta Georgia to Charlotte, North Carolina. With his work ethic and credentials, Funderburk had no trouble finding a job doing exactly what he loves to do – saving lives. Funderburk completed his education at MJCC in April of this year, and soon began working for Grifol’s Plasma Center, as a Donor Center Technician. Funderburk now pre-screens donors to ensure that they are healthy enough to donate plasma.

When asked about how Job Corps has impacted his life, Funderburk said, “I wouldn’t be in this position if it weren’t for my time at MJCC. Job Corps taught me a level of self-discipline that I didn’t previously possess. Because of my decision to enroll at the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center, I no longer worry about being forced to accept a minimum wage job. I make pretty good money, and I have goals that I now know I can achieve. Next up for me is going to school to become an EMT.”

When asked if he had any advice for prospective students, Funderburk said, “Keep your eyes on your goals. Don’t ever give up. Job Corps can help get you where you want to go in life.”

Funderburk’s former MJCC mentor, Jodi Ashby, remembers him as an outstanding student. “He was a good student and was ready to learn new things always. He came here with the intention to succeed and build a good life for himself. He stuck to it and never wavered from that goal! Anyone can do it, but not everyone will do it. Bernard is someone who will reach his goals.”

Way to go Bernard! MJCC is proud of you for all of your accomplishments!
