Muhlenberg Student Success – Zach Castillo

MJCC grad Zach Castillo now works driving trucks
Muhlenberg Job Corps graduate Zach Castillo spent 139 days at the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center, and he feels it was well worth it. In just under five months, Castillo completed the remainder of his high school credits, received his diploma, completed his Class B Commercial Driver’s License, became Green Environment certified, completed his OSHA 10 certification, became certified to operate a forklift, and became certified through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). With his work ethic and credentials, Castillo had no trouble finding a job doing exactly what he loves to do — driving trucks. Castillo completed his education at MJCC in March, and soon began working for C&W Construction, operating a Class B tri-axle dump truck and working to obtain his Class A commercial driver’s license.

When asked about how Job Corps has impacted his life, Castillo said, “I came from the small town of Campbellsburg, KY. I wanted to get my high school diploma and my CDL but didn’t know quite how to do it. The judge executive of Henry County, John Logan Brent, brought Job Corps to my attention and I figured it would be a good deal.”

“I am currently working at C&W Construction driving a Class B tri-axle dump truck making $17 an hour and LOVE it. I highly recommend Job Corps to the ones who really want something and are going to do anything it takes to make their dreams and goals become a reality.”

Castillo’s former classmates remember him as an outstanding student. “He was a good truck driver and a hard worker,” said one student in the CDL program. “He was really dedicated to his training and his future,” said another.

Commercial Driving Instructor Lewis Woodward said, “Zach was a great student. I would love to have a room full of students just like him.”

Way to go Zach! MJCC is proud of you for all of your accomplishments!
