18-year-old Jayvon Soares appreciates the positive impact volunteerism can have in a community. He witnessed it firsthand in his hometown of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and continues the cycle by donating much of his time here in Vergennes, Vermont and the surrounding communities.

“I’m a social person and enjoy meeting new people,” Jayvon said. “Helping out and making a difference in the community is much more beneficial than sitting in my dorm room playing video games.”

Javyon was recently honored with Northlands’ Community Service Volunteer of the Month award. His eagerness to assist in any way possible in a variety of community activities was cited in his selection.

A successful Culinary Arts student, Jayvon is planning to attend Advanced Training in Penobscot, Maine and then to continue his studies in college. We have no doubt he’ll be a great success in his future endeavors.
