The North Texas Job Corps Student Government Association Outreach Committee members participated in the Hamilton Park 34th annual Juneteenth parade held 6/22 in the Hamilton Park community in Dallas, TX.  Juneteenth is an annual observance that started in Texas on June 19 to remember when Union soldiers enforced the Emancipation Proclamation and freed all remaining slaves in Texas on June 19, 1856.  This day is an opportunity for people to celebrate freedom and equal rights in the United States.  Congressman Allred was a parade participant since the Hamilton Park division is in his district.  Thus the NTJC students were introduced to him and got to talk with him about their Job Corps journey/experience.  They also invited him to come and tour the campus.  The students were actively engaged in the parade, passing out NTJC sunglasses and hand  fans that had information about the center printed on them.  NTJC also participated in the festival that followed the parade helping to set up tables, cleaning up the pavilion, and being treated to free “In and Out” burger baskets.
