NORTH TEXAS JOB CORPS STUDENTS TOURED COLLEGE CAMPUSES IN 2018

During 2018 the Counseling staff at the North Texas Job Corps Center undertook the monumental task of taking 25 students monthly to tour college campuses.  For the majority of the students this was their first visit to a college.  The goal is to introduce students to “college life”  and to allay some of the fears that the students may have about enrolling in college.  They actually got to see and interact with other youth like themselves, visit the dorms, and talk with the admissions staff and faculty.  The North Texas Job Corps students toured eight colleges during 2018.  They were Baylor University, Texas College, Tyler Jr. College, Grayson College, Houston Tillotson College, Dallas Baptist University, Sam Houston University, and Argosy University.   North Texas Job Corps also has a partnership with Collin College and has 20 slots for students to attend Collin College while still enrolled at North Texas Job Corps. Ladayvion Heard was one of the students who toured the Dallas Baptist University campus.  He stated “it was a wonderful experience and such a beautiful campus.  I want to attend college at Prairie View University and study Business Management.”  Ladayvion is from Houston, TX and has been enrolled at North Texas Job Corps since August 7, 2018.  He is currently in the Culinary Arts trade.  Mr. Gillespie, Counselor, says that “the college tours will continue in 2019 with our first visit being to the University of North Texas.”
