 On Friday, August 24, 2012, Old Dominion Job Corps Center joined with 125 centers across the country to celebrate the second annual “National Job Corps Commencement Day”.  There were 191 ODJCC graduates qualified to participat3e in this ceremony.

Mark Shriver, son of Sargent Shriver who founded Job Corps in 1964, 48 years ago, served as the national keynote speaker for this event.  He congratulated the 60,000 students who graduated from Job Corps this year.  In a nationwide video address delivered in front of the United States Capitol Shriver said “Job Corps is a great investment for the American People.”

The District Director for U.S. congressman Robert Hurt, Ms. Linda Green, served as Commencement Speaker for Old Dominion Job Corps graduates.  She read a congratulatory letter from the Congressman.  Center Director Danny Grimes read a congratulatory letter from U.S. Senator Mark Warner.  The District Representative to U.S. Representative Bob Goodlatte, Ms. Clarkie Epps, also delivered a letter of congratulations to our graduates.

At the conclusion of the graduation ceremony, the attendees were invited to a reception held in ODJCC’s dining hall.
