On Wednesday, November 16, 2011, HBI Facility Maintenance Instructor Kelly and nine of his students volunteered to assist “Gleaning for the World” at their warehouse facility with sorting current donations or projects.  GFTW had received a number of pallets of donated suntan lotion.  The suntan lotion had to be cleaned by washing, sorted by expiration date, boxed according to date, SPF and quantity and packed in marked boxes for shipment overseas.   Each month on the third Wednesday of the month, one of our CTT classes volunteers at the GFTW facility.  Last month it was the nursing students and their instructor who sorted military dress shoes donated by the CAP Shoe Company.  We also are on call to assist GFTW when they need additional assistant due to a disaster or an annual drive like their Baby Supply Drive to assist local families.  We assisted in collections when the Japanese sunami occurred and the tornados in Alabama and Virginia.  Our students enjoy the activities and always want to know if they can go back to GFTW and help with other projects.  This partnership is a win-win situation.
