An entertaining evening with our Virginia Lawmakers
By Jeanne W. Vaughan, Business Community Liaison
On Thursday evening, September 29, 2011, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, Business Community Liaison Jeanne Vaughan and Director of Education and Training Reginald Walker joined community members, leaders and employers to mingle with our legislators and candidates in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere at the historic summer home of Thomas Jefferson.
Candidates running for the Virginia General Assembly Senate seat for the 22nd District hobnobbed and spoke to the gathering. Tom Garrett, Republican, and Bert Dodson, Democrat, addressed the issues focused on in their campaigns. State Senator Steve Newman, R; Delegate Scott Garrett, R; and Delegate Ben Cline, R; were also in attendance. U.S. Representatives Robert Hurt, R, and Bob Goodlatte, R, were in attendance and Representative Goodlatte joined our table for dinner.
In addition to the opportunity to talk with our legislators, the event included down-home barbecue and fixin’s, a live band, and an excellent networking opportunity. Invitations to visit our Center were extended to the legislators. Information on our Center and the students we serve was shared with interested participants.
