Virginia Senator Garrett visits ODJCC

By Jeanne Vaughan, Business Community Liaison

On Tuesday, May 22, 2012, Virginia State Senator Tom Garrett (I) visited Old Dominion Job Corps Center.  He represents part of Lynchburg and all of the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Goochland, and Prince Edward counties, and part of Louisa County.  Old Dominion Job Corps Center is located in Amherst County.

Senator Garrett is the Commonwealth’s Attorney of Louisa County, Virginia.  He was elected to represent the newly formed 22nd District of Virginia.  This is his first term of office.

The Senator was very interested in what Job Corps provides the students and spent time touring the facility, speaking with students in classrooms as well as instructors and other staff.

The Senator served for 6 years in the military and had much in common with many of our staff who are former military men.  Students and staff who encountered the Senator seemed to enjoy the interaction.

We will invite the Senator back for our next Community Relations Committee Breakfast meeting.
