Pine Ridge Students Share with College Preparatory Class

Dr. Eno's Class

Seven Students from the Pine Ridge Job Corps Conservation Center recently attended Dr. Karen Enos’class on Methods of Teaching Elementary Social Studies at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska.  The students shared their experiences while they were in refugee camps and how they were able to immigrate to the United States.  Several came from the war-torn country of Burma.  The students conveyed what type of difficulties they had when they reached the United States.  The biggest problem for many of them was learning English.  Chuol Pan offered the suggestions of using more pictures to assist when teaching non English speaking students. The Methods class will visit Pine Ridge Job Corps and present an English as a Second Language lesson to a group of students next month.  The exercise will help the teachers for the challenges associated with students who are learning English as a Second Language.
