“Winners do what they have to do; Losers do what they want to do.” Moreover, you have 3 types of people in the world, those that make things happen, those that watch happen and those who don’t know what happen. Who will you be.” “Cynthia”

Meet Ms. Cynthia Mills

My father asked me a question; he wanted to know what I wanted to do.” I told him that I wanted to work with my hands and I wanted to work with wood. He said that Carpenters work with wood and he bought me an occupational book, where we looked-up Carpentry. That is how I got to Job Corps. The book stated that I needed one year in a pre-apprenticeship program and at the time, Keystone Job Corps Center (JCC) offered that and more. There, I got my GED, my driver’s license, and my certificate in Carpentry.I transferred to Potomac JCC for “on-the-job training” in carpentry. I got a job weatherizing homes and that started my career. I began my apprenticeship at Joint Acarpentry Apprenticeship Committee in 1982 and completed as a journeyperson in 1987. I have been a Union Carpenter for 35 years and I’m currently working at Potomac JCC as a Carpentry instructor. I love who I have become thanks to Job Corps.
