Profile of Success: Sharay Salters

Behind the winning, “I got this” smile of Sharay Salters, Culinary Arts graduate is a fighter.  Sharay arrived at WJCC after many struggles as a young single mother.  Although she had more than her fair share of challenges at home, she served on the board of the Student Government Association and participated vigorously in campus activities.  She worked part-time in the campus cafeteria and even registered for a week-long conference on local foods and campus gardening at UMASS Amherst.  As one of the youngest individuals at the conference, and a recipient of a scholarship enrollment, she became the star of the meeting, making sharp contributions and taking the ideas back to Westover. She met college representatives from Yale University and UMASS Amherst at the meeting.  Both showed interest in her applying to their schools.  She was also courted by Holyoke Community College.  She decided to pursue full-time employment for now.  She is working full time at Rachael’s Foods in Chicopee, MA where she works to prepare fresh, healthy meals for people on the go.
