Whitney Young Job Corps Culinary Grad Enjoys Residence

Whitney Young Job Corps culinary graduate, Darryl Jones, likes working at the Crestview Center nursing home as a cook. At 19 years old Darryl had graduated Henry County High School, but wanted more than working at local fast food restaurants. So he teamed up with a Kentucky Youth Program in Henry County that connected Darryl with the Whitney Young Job Corps center. His coach Renee’ Walter thought Whitney Young Job Corps would be the perfect fit for Darryl. Darryl started Whitney Young Job Corps in August of 2017 and in less than 10 months, Darryl received several certifications in culinary arts including his ServSafe. In addition Darryl participated in the Work Based Learning program at Crestview Center in Shelbyville, KY, where he worked as a helper then as a cook for the residence.

Being that Darryl was a responsible and dependable employee, they hired Darryl to work full time starting Monday, June 11th, as a cook. Darryl really likes the residence because they are easy to get along with and fun to be around. Darryl has his own transportation and is very eager to start working and being self sufficient. Darryl also worked on campus in the cafeteria and enjoys the culinary arena. Darryl would like to say to future Job Corps students that “It’s going to be challenging, but worth it! The overall experience and meeting new friends”.
