Faces of Job Corps: Shiquita S.
July 30th, 2010
At the age of 18, Shiquita foolishly quit school and left her parents’ home believing there was something better. After moving from house to house and getting involved with the wrong crowd she followed the advice of her brother and enrolled at the Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center. Since listening to her brother Shiquita has vastly improved her life and accomplished the following:
- Is now a Certified Medical Assistant and 89% complete in her second trade as a Nursing Assistant
- Has been involved in cheerleading, dorm leadership, and now serves as the President of Student Government Association
- Completed a SGA Leadership Camp at Camp Horizons
“I would have never believed that I could instill hope into others who have struggled like me. Job Corps has given me the confidence to know that I am doing the right thing and I am at the right place. Job Corps changed my life; I am not the same person.”
