Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps Center Partners with the City of Simpsonville Parks and Recreation Department

On Thursday, September 5th, 2019 the Building Construction Technologies trade (BCT) kicked off our partnership with the City of Simpsonville Parks and Recreation Department by lending a hand in helping with some finishing touches to the newly renovated gymnasium.  The Simpsonville gymnasium recently got new flooring and because of the new, wood floor, there was a log of saw dust and overall debris throughout the gym.  BCT students went in and helped clean the gym, stage, concession area and storage closet; and they did a great job!

The students that helped out were Elizabeth Baker, Jakob Benoit, Shelby Greer, La’Shay Harry, Kassidy Marksberry, Barrett Smith and Tremarius Wade, under the direction of BCT instructor, Rod Ussery and City of Simpsonville Parks and Recreation Director, Chris Truelock.

The Simpsonville Parks and Recreation Director, Chris Truelock, had this to say about the students and instructor; “I was really impressed with the speed, quality and quantity of work provided by the students.  Excellent organization, teamwork and great attitudes.  Impressive most of all was the pride they took in their work! A rare happening these days.  The staff direction was on point, professional and motivating.  Excellent leadership by the staff.  What a huge impart the Job Corps is having on our future workforce.  I am so impressed!  I will be notifying the Job Corps of all future employment opportunities coming up through our agency.  Your training program is the best I’ve seen.”

We have several more projects lined up with the City of Simpsonville Parks and Recreation Department and are excited for this partnership!
