Whitney M. Young Successfully Welcomes Back 1st and 2nd Cohort

The Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center Resumption of Physical Operations planned was approved to return students. On January 13,2021, the Whitney M. Young Job Corps center cohort 1, arrived 30 students and on January 19,2021 the center welcomed back 16 students safely in cohort 2.  As students arrived, students participated in wellness screening, after wellness clearance, student temperature was taken, followed by a rapid COVID-19 Rapid test. Health & Wellness manager, Freda Davis overseen the welcoming process ensuring all CDC and Social Distancing guidelines were followed, along with the support of health and wellness staff. Our security team checked bags, and spoke to the students about following our social distancing policies.

Once COVID results were returned, Student Personnel Officer, Lewis Gilbert provided students with PPE (face mask) and reminded students of the center’s social distancing policies. Business & Community Liaison, Miracle Howard greeted all students with welcoming gift bags. Dr. Stephanie Barber, Center Director, had phone conferences with the students and walked the dorms “waving from a distance in the evening hours.”

Residential Director, Nicholas Duvall, and residential staff greeted students in dorm and guided students to their assigned room. Each student was assigned to their individual room which consisted of hygiene and distance learning supplies, snacks, and assorted gifts. Out of the two phases, the Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center has a 100% success rate of returning all students with negative COVID results. Cohort 3 student return will be on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
