Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corps Center

Whitney Young Partners with Food Literacy Project

September 5th, 2018

On September 5, Whitney Young Job Corps hosted the Food Literacy Project at Oxmoor Farm to park their edible, mobile learning garden – the Louisville Truck Farm on campus. Giving the Whitney Young Job Corps culinary students the opportunity to pick by hand fresh from the vine herbs and spices to cook with and notice the distinct difference in taste. Culinary Instructor, Juanita Edmondson, wanted her students, to have the experience of seeing, touching, smelling and tasting food fresh from the soil.

The Food Literacy Project at Oxmoor Farm provides professional development training to educators and youth programs with strategies of integrating themes for food and agriculture in the classroom. While on campus, students picked fresh ingredients like tomatoes, onions, red peppers, basil and more to prepare an outstanding omelet outside.
